I was trying to change the file on the iPhone rather, than a track from the library! Doh.
Anyway, you can just drag the ringtone straight onto your iPhone rather than syncing it.

that was a wicked tutorial, you made it simple bro. One thing though, invest in a tripod for that cam, its worth the ten bucks. Anyways thank you for taking the time to help, I woulda got it eventually but you saved me alot of reading and pissing around. i had the same problem, what you do it is go to Edit then Preferences, then you select the ringtones option and make sure it is checked. However I believe you have to have itunes 7.4 or better

Yes .. i can help you.. that happened to me once and i didnt know what it was until i changed some information of the song or the ringtone, for example... the album.. try . instead of The beatles go paris , just put The beatles paris. i dont know make it different to the original one. or if you like dont put anything....for some reason they will show up in ur phone if you change the info of the son/tone a lil'...try it/ it worked for me..
