As good as it gets and I've heard many performances of this piece. My favourite is still Clifford Curzon.

Sorry guys, I don't agree. I think it is a relatively (!!) poor performance, which lacks depth, engagement, passion, fire, vision... I am not at all moved, it all sounds too superficial. Completely different from what Richter & Rubinstein managed to achieve in their performances.

Dimitris (sp?) Sgouros was a child prodigy in the early eighties. Rubinstein declared him the best pianist he had ever heard. Whether or not such hyperbole was deserved, you can't help but be impressed by the sentiment. Pleased to see he's still performing.

Do you or anyeone believe that he really "needs a chance"? He is a fantastic pianist and so is his interpratation of fantasy. People who post stupid comments or dont urdenstand nothing of music or never tried to play this piece. He is not Martha Argerich neither Richter... he is Sgouros and he must play like Sgouros. There is some record that we like more than others, but it doesnt mean that there is "betters" or "worses" versions... music its not a competition.

....everyday i ask myself: is it possible that the world has so many "stupidity" ?? How can you guys always COMPARE ?? ..this is better or this is worse...pfff... how can you say that there is no music in this performance??? absolutely stupid. ...music is not a race... i feel sorry for the human race when i see ignorant comments like some of these...

This cuts out so many dimensions of psychological dimensions of Schumann with his evened-out approach to note placement & quasi-metronomic phrasing.His colors are bland & articulation ever vanilla.
I accept this possibility of Schumann,but just like every other modern rendition like this that bears no resemblance to the playing of Schumann's era,IT'S BORING.
