This song is still as relevant today as it was when released in 1982. Billy Joel's talent is unbelievable, he has played music in all genres (rock, jazz, soul, classical and so on). IMHO The Nylon Curtain was Billy's best album of the 1980s (Glass Houses in close second) though TNC was his worst seller of his 1980s output as songs like this, Scandanavian Skies, Pressure and She's Right On Time are classics.

That number is from the 2000 census. The US Census Bureau website indicates the 2006 population estimate at 34.1 Hispanic. The Allentown Hispanic population has quadrupled from 1980 to 2000. The 2010 census numbers should be very interesting.

i live so freakin close to Allentown, this song describes Bethlehem which is a neighboring city, the only reason it's called Allentown is because Bethlehem didn't rhyme with anything. the steel mill is in my hometown of Bethlehem, not Allentown, the big draft site for WWII was in Bethlehem. the iron mill is still up and rusted out, but it has a beautiful memorial out front. it's beautiful.
